  • In Celebration of
    World Year of Physics 2005

    Dear Colleagues,

The International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) will organize a Seminar from September 28 to October 1, 2005 at the Center for High Energy Physics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea. Such a Seminar takes place every three years with the aim of bringing together government officials involved in strategic decisions for High Energy Physics (HEP), representatives of the major funding agencies, the directors of major HEP laboratories, and leading scientists from all of the regions of HEP activity.

This Seminar is timely, as the scientific communities of the three major world HEP regions reached a consensus on the International Linear Collider (ILC) and its technology in August 2004, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is progressing well and is expected to produce first results in the TeV physics regime in 2007. Furthermore, the different regions, represented by ACFA, ECFA and HEPAP, have independently studied and established possible roadmaps for the future of HEP, and the Consultative Group on HEP of the OECD Global Science Forum produced a report in June 2002 dealing with the possible roadmaps and globalization of the next large HEP facility.

With these recent developments, the ICFA Seminar will provide an ideal opportunity for an exchange of ideas on the future direction of HEP and a forum for discussion on the trends in HEP with emphasis on globalization issues. In order to allow for effective discussion, the number of participants is restricted and attendance is by invitation only.

The draft program of the ICFA Seminar is attached. We hope that this Seminar will be as successful as the previous ones, and we would like to count on your support and feedback. We would like to hear your comments on the range of topics to be covered, and we would like to have suggestions for speakers.

Comments and suggestions for speakers can be sent to the following:
